The Big Picture!
Hemp is a versatile plant which is packed with many different phytochemicals, many of which are sought after by users, for various reasons. These range from cannabidiol (the CBD we are hearing all about) along with countless other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins and minerals and more. While hemp is closely related to the marijuana plant, the most important point to understand is that hemp naturally contains far lower concentrations of THC (the part of the marijuana plant that makes users feel high.) Hemp typically contains around 0.2% THC, and in the United States is required by Federal Law to contain less than 0.3% THC. While this level of THC is not enough to produce any psychoactive effects, some users prefer to enjoy the CBD terpenes and the rest of the compounds found in hemp with all traces of THC removed. Broad Spectrum is exactly this, a hemp derived CBD product with cannabidiol, as well as all of the naturally occurring phytochemicals but zero THC!
How is Broad Spectrum CBD Made?
There are several methods used to make Broad Spectrum CBD. The first and most common way is to begin with full spectrum extract and further process it to isolate and remove the THC from the extract. This is often accomplished by using a specialized chromatography media. Chromatography is a process by which the extract is passed through a column loaded with a specialized media which removes approximately 99.9% of THC, while allowing other compounds to pass through. The end result is a CBD product with all of the naturally occurring compounds you want without the THC that you don’t!
The second, but less common method for creating a Broad Spectrum CBD extract is begin with A CBD isolate, and combine it with the specific terpenes that are desired for the blend. This grants the manufacturer the ability to fine tune the mixture of CBD and specific terpenes to create an extract which includes only the desired compounds which may be appealing for different uses, and absolutely none of the THC!
